On September 1st, Rolex had introduced their new 41 mm submariner models. However, today we are going to discuss more about the key differences of 116610LV Submariner Date Hulk versus 126610LV Submariner Date with the nickname of Kermit or some people even named it as Starbucks. Not going to introduce the other submariner models colourway as many other professionals watch bloggers had already done it.
Choosing a watch that fits your wrist size is undeniably the first thing you should look for. It was pretty surprising when Rolex transitioned all the new Rolex Submariner to 41mm from 40mm. As to compare Asians and Westerners’ wrist size, the Hulk model with 40mm will look perfect on your wrist although the new Kermit comes with a smaller lug.. The Hulk has a reflective sunburst green dial when light reflects on it unlike the mainstream-looking Kermit model with black lacquer dial.
If you asked me whether I prefer the 116610LV Hulk or 126610LV Kermit. Deep diving into the price, 116610LV Hulk has a retail price of RM35,290 as of January 2020 & 126610LV Kermit has a retail price of RM36,070. All of us know, if we are going after the retail price for all the hot models, the chance is pretty slim to get from the Authorized Dealer without splashing a bunch of cash every year.
There are many people who end up getting it from the grey market dealer as it is much easier and faster. Hulk’s price in the grey market before the launch of new Kermit Submariner it was in the range of RM65,000 for a brand new watch as of May 2020. On 1st of September 2020, when Rolex had announced the new Kermit, Hulk price had shot up to around RM82,000 for a brand new one. Hulk’s price shot up by approximately 26%. Reason wise it was due to “Discontinued” as it no longer available in Rolex production line anymore. Rolex Kermit are priced at around RM110,000 in Malaysia’s grey market. Deep thought that the price in the grey market is pretty crazy for a steel watch. In that price range, you would have a lot of alternative choices in other brands like Audermars Piguet or higher range Hublot.
Questions will rise after reading this blog, would the price for Hulk remain stiff, drop or continue to increase in the near future ? Nobody knows. Would the Kermit drop after the Covid-19 pandemic ends or remain at that stiff price ? Guess whether it is worth it or not, it depends on your personal thoughts. I would rather get myself a solid gold day date for that price range or even Royal Oak Offshore Audemars Piguet. Drop us your thoughts on this. Pretty interested to know the end user’s opinion too.
Thanks for reading. Have a nice day !
